Work to develop a new route through Blackweir Woodland started week commencing Monday 25 October 2021. This was done by the Council's in-house woodland management team.

Blackweir Woods are a Site of Interest for Nature Conservation (SINC) so we are carrying out these works to both protect our woodland's biodiversity and provide good accessibility within the park.

Future works will include essential safety work to trees, native bulb planting and wood chipping muddy areas to keep the route accessible all year round. All trees, that can be retained in this woodland will be, both living and dead, as they provide very important habitat for a wide variety of species.

In time will be closing off the old path to allow the woodland flora there to regenerate and recover. We hope you will understand why this work is important and enjoy the new path we have created for you.

Finally, we are a big fan of "wellie walks" in Bute Park and we encourage people to put on their wellies if walking in our woodlands. This will help prevent similar problems along the new route as it won't be necessary for people to stray off the path to avoid muddy areas.
