Cardiff Castle,
City Hall, Cardiff Central Library, St David’s Hall, the New Theatre, the
Norwegian Church and the Cardiff Story Museum will turn their external lights
off and join hundreds of millions of individuals and businesses from more than
180 different countries and more than 7000 cities to mark Earth Hour from 8.30pm
– 9.30pm on Saturday 30th March.
Cabinet Member
for Clean Streets, Recycling & Environment, Cllr Michael Michael said:
“Since the council first participated in Earth Hour 10 years ago we’ve taken
some significant steps to reduce our impact on the environment. We’ve harnessed the power of the River Taff
to generate renewable electricity at Radyr Weir, installed LED street-lighting
and recently trialled electric vehicles in the city centre - but we can all
still do more. I’d encourage as many
people as possible to join us in marking Earth Hour this weekend.”
Big impacts
start with small steps and this year, as well as turning out the lights for one
hour, individuals and organisations are also being encouraged to change one
thing to protect the planet. Whether
it’s planning a staycation, carrying a reusable water bottle or turning your
washing down to 30 degrees, we all have the power to make a difference.
