School Eco Team win car-free day competition

An online video made by pupils at Radnor Primary School in Canton celebrating car-free day has won a city-wide competition.

Members of the school's successful Eco Team were presented with vouchers for Treetop Adventure Golf in St David's shopping centre, after winning a Cardiff Council competition for schools asking for imaginative ways of promoting last May's car-free day.

The winning video showed pupils explaining the importance of not wasting energy and calling for fewer engine emissions to a rendition of Queen's rock classic "Bicycle Race". The Radnor Primary School video can be watched here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnXGwtdz5fA

Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Transport, Cllr Caro Wild said: "It was a great pleasure to meet staff and the Eco Team at Radnor Primary School and present them with their prize. I loved their online video. They managed to get the important message of car-free day across in a very engaging way and pupils told me that they had a lot of fun making the video. I would also like to thank Eoghan Walsh and all the teaching staff at the school for working with the pupils on this impressive project."

Several city centre roads in Cardiff were closed from 10am until 4pm on the 13thof May to highlight the importance of improving air quality in British cities.
