Delivering new affordable homes

Plans to acquire 30 brand new homes in an area of the city with high levels of housing need will be discussed next week.

The Council is considering entering into a contract with Cadwyn Housing Association to acquire 30 new build flats on Courtenay Road in Splott.

The deal would support the Council's target of delivering 1,000 new council homes over the next five years, through its Cardiff Living programme, acquisitions and other innovative housing initiatives.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lynda Thorne, said: "We have an exciting opportunity to acquire 30 brand new flats in Splott where we particularly need to increase our stock of affordable rented properties.

"The new apartments will provide much needed council homes, close to the city centre and helps us on our way to delivering 1,000 new council homes."

The scheme will consist of 20 one-bed flats and ten two-bed flats.

The Council will submit the scheme to Welsh Government for inclusion with the authority's ‘Affordable Housing Grant' allocation.

Cabinet will consider recommendations for the Council to enter into a contract with Cadwyn Housing Association at its next meeting on Thursday, October 12.
