Cardiff Story Museum has been shortlisted for a Family Friendly Museum award!
These prestigious annual awards are run by the charity Kids in Museums and are widely regarded as the biggest museum awards in Britain.
The museum was praised in particular for its interactive community work and for running events promoting language skills.
Creative Director of Kids in Museums, Dea Birkett said: "Congratulations to Cardiff Story for reaching the shortlist of the Family Friendly Museum Award. It's a great achievement in a really competitive year, with over 700 nominations. Cardiff Story was particularly commended for really reaching out to the whole community and co-creating exhibitions and displays with their visitors. The museum responded to feedback from refugee families and made their Explorer Backpacks help with learning English and Welsh, part of their work to welcome Syrian refugee families to Cardiff. They're an example of the welcome every museum should give to all families."
Manager of the Cardiff Story Museum, Victoria Rogers said: "We're really pleased to have been shortlisted this year! We know the Cardiff Story is loved by families - whether they're in the city on holiday, or regulars to our Dinky Dragons or school holiday events. So it's great to get that recognised! We've been longlisted three times in the past, so we're hoping its fourth time lucky this time!"
Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Cardiff Council, Cllr Peter Bradbury said: "Congratulations to Victoria and all the staff at Cardiff Story Museum for this nomination and I obviously hope they go on and are named the most family friendly museum in Britain! As a trustee of the museum I value the hard work that goes on there and know that a national award would be very well-deserved. But one of the major benefits of nominations like these is that this work is presented to a much wider audience."
Over the summer, the shortlisted museums are road-tested anonymously by chosen families and the winner will be announced at the Kids in Museums award ceremony in October.
