Founder of CNWL National Problem Gambling Clinic, Dr Henrietta, receives #NHS70 Award
Dr. Henrietta Bowden-Jones, Consultant Psychiatrist at CNWL has been chosen as one of the London Women Leadership Network's #NHS70 award recipients. Henrietta is the founder of the NHS's National Problem Gambling Clinic and President of the Medical Women's Federation (MWF). She is one of 70 women receiving the award for making amazing things happen in medicine in the NHS's 70th year.
The awards are hosted by the London's Women Leadership Network (LWN) as part of the #NHS70 celebrations this year, and coincide with 100 years of suffrage for women. On International Women's Day, 8 March 2018, the LWN opened the nominations process with the aim of seeking out the incredible stories of women who lead and inspire in the NHS.
Henrietta, who took over the presidency of the MWF in May 2018, is particularly excited to see an award which recognises and celebrates the work of inspiring women in the NHS. She says;
"This is a special time for women in medicine in the UK as so many of the Royal Colleges and other organisations have female leaders. This is a unique opportunity to offer strong role models to our younger generations of colleagues. These are the leaders our younger medics can aspire to follow"
Henrietta's work within the National Problem Gambling Clinic was recently recognised by Secretary for Health Jeremy Hunt when he visited her service to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the clinic's work with pathological gamblers and their families.
Henrietta adds: "I love looking after my patients; I never get tired or burnt out. I love spending time with them and with my excellent team of psychologists, therapists and psychiatrists all working together to reduce gambling related harm. What a treat to be have been nominated for doing something that I love so much!"

The London Women's Leadership Network (LWLN) was set up by the London Leadership Academy (LLA) in May 2017. This network aims to create a happier, healthier workforce - and to shape an NHS leadership that is truly diverse and inclusive at every level. Led by women, for women, and with men; the London Women's Leadership Network is driving an innovative and transformative approach to gender equality that is a catalyst for lasting change. It currently has over 500 active members and has offered workshops and development, commissioned research, funded fellowships linked with other networks and supported the setup of communities of practice to work on live issues for women within the NHS.
As part of the #NHS70 celebrations this year, coinciding with 100 years of suffrage for some women, the LWLN embarked on a quest to find and celebrate 70 outstanding women leaders in the NHS in London, as nominated by their peers and colleagues. Launching the nominations process on International Women's Day, 8thMarch 2018, as part of this year's theme of #PressforProgress our aim was to scour the capital to seek out the incredible stories of women who lead, inspire and make amazing things happen.
These 70 women are women who are making a difference where they work, be it in the care of patients, the leadership of others, or in their own quiet way which makes an impact on colleagues.
The #NHS70 Women campaign received around 150 applications, and the final 70 were chosen by a panel including members of the LWLN and LLA, male and female, clinical and non-clinical.
