An exhibition exploring Cardiff street photography past and present has just opened at the Pierhead building in Cardiff Bay.

This new exhibition is run by The Cardiff Story Museum and features everyday life on the streets of Cardiff since the advent of the hand-held camera in the 1880s. It runs until the 6thof July in the Futures Gallery.

The photographs on display have been brought together from collections at National Museum Wales, Imperial War Museum and from local photographers. There are also brand new images on display which have been specially taken for the exhibition.

Exhibitions Officer at The Cardiff Story Museum, Alison Tallontire said: "Pulling together the images for this exhibition has been a journey of discovery and the final selection paints a fascinating picture of the city's history seen through the eyes of photographers."

Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Cardiff Council, Cllr Peter Bradbury said: "The exhibition at the Pierhead is an excellent celebration of our social history. I am reliably informed that the move from studio to street towards the end of the 19thcentury enabled photographers to take pictures of those who wouldn't normally have their photo taken, therefore documenting the social histories of working class communities for the first time. It really is a fascinating collection and I encourage everybody to go along and take a look at our rich past."

Cardiff Street Photography is the latest in the Cardiff Story Museum's series of exhibitions held at the Pierhead building. The exhibition runs until the 6thof July in the Futures Gallery.
