Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare awarded major acute supply and maintenance contract

DRIVE DEVILBISS HEALTHCARE AWARDED MAJOR ACUTE SUPPLY AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT

Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare has been awarded a substantial supply and maintenance contract for South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland. Under the terms of the contract, the company is supplying the Trust with a comprehensive range of products including ward beds, static and dynamic mattresses and seat cushions, illustrating the comprehensive breadth and quality of the expanded Drive DeVilbiss product portfolio.

The Trust is an integrated organisation, incorporating acute hospital services, community health and social services, looking after a population of some 345,000 people. The beds and support surfaces will be used across three of the Trust's hospitals, Ulster Hospital, Lagan Valley Hospital and The Downe Hospital as part of the organisation's stated commitment to delivering safe, timely, high quality and cost-effective care.

The contract calls for a total of 891 Innov8 iQ beds, all manufactured in the UK. The Innov8 iQ has been designed around optimising tissue viability, infection control and health and safety in terms of manual handling and falls prevention, and features ‘iQ Contouring', where the backrest and kneebreak operate in harmony to reduce shear and friction, playing an important part in the prevention of pressure ulcers.

Alongside the iQ beds, Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare is supplying and maintaining almost an equivalent number of support surfaces, primarily the Hybrid-Air mattress, the Artemis dynamic therapy system and the Eclipse dynamic overlay mattress. The Hybrid-Air is a non-powered mattress, using a clever combination of foam and air cells which operate on the principle of air displacement. When a person repositions on the Hybrid-Air, air moves within the mattress to surrounding cells to provide optimal pressure redistribution.

Artemis is a fully automatic dynamic mattress with a range of high end functions to support acute care needs. This support surface incorporates automatic and intuitive pressure adjustment, with internal pressures determined by the individual patient's weight. Constant monitoring enables pressures to change automatically to accommodate the changing movement and positioning of the patient. Both surfaces deliver defined clinical benefits, providing enhanced safety and comfort for all patient group risk levels.

In addition, Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare is supplying and maintaining a number of Innov8 Low beds with mattress platforms descending to an exceptionally low level, optimising falls prevention, and static and dynamic seat cushions.

This is a five year contract with the option to extend for a further two years, and is being managed via an on-site location at Ulster Hospital staffed by dedicated Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare personnel. The company also managed a pre-implementation training programme for clinical staff at the hospitals, which saw the equipment phased in over a period of time to minimise any possibility of disruption to services.
