Thorite Conveys Innovative Pneumatics Technology to Robson

Sheffield-based Mechanical Handling systems manufacturer Geo. Robson & Co. (Conveyors) contacted Thorite to enquire whether they could suggest solutions to enhance their production requirements.

Robson are specialists in providing conveyor products and systems for airports, power generation, recycling, sugar, cement and glass manufacture and many other industries worldwide and were confident that Thorite, the UK's biggest pneumatic products and systems distributor, could offer the right solutions.

A senior Thorite sales engineer visited the company's design team and proposed changing their choice of pneumatic cylinders. Normal cylinders comprise the cylinder itself, tubing, flow control unit, valves and wiring all as separate components to create one circuit, but as Thorite is IMI Precision Engineering's biggest distributor the engineer knew there was a far better product available.

He advised the use of IVAC cylinders on the installation which are patented, weight and space optimised pneumatic cylinders that reduce energy costs by up to 50%. They combine pilot and control valves, position sensors and flow regulators in one compact unit, saving energy, removal and replacement time and needing much less space, resulting in improved efficiency, reduced downtime and greater ease of use.

An energy saving recommendation was the installation of Emerson filter regulators working in conjunction with the IVAC cylinders to ensure constantly controlled , reduced pressures for the pneumatic system.

Stephen Lambert, Robson's Project Engineer, impressed by both the knowledge of Thorite's engineering personnel and the calibre of the pneumatic products said:

"It's refreshing to work with people who are so obviously experts in their field. Thorite understand our insistence on quality, value for money and the need for energy efficiency in all aspects of our manufacturing process, an insistence that has gained Robson a wide range of prestigious business awards and an exceptionally loyal customer base. It's a pleasure to find such a specialist supplier whose priorities and standards of business so closely match our own."

Full details of IMI Precision Engineering's IVAC pneumatic cylinders and Emerson filter regulators are available from the Thorite website, by contacting the Technical Application Team on Freephone 0800 142 2446 or by visiting any of Thorite's 10 regional Sales & Service Centres located throughout Yorkshire, Lancashire, the West Midlands and the North East.
