GOVERNMENT VOUCHER SCHEME REMOVES SATELLITE BROADBAND INSTALLATION CHARGES FOR SUFFOLK HOMES AND BUSINESSES

Remote homes and businesses in Suffolk have until the end of November to take advantage of a special Government plan to offer free access to satellite broadband equipment.

The county has been chosen, along with West Yorkshire, for a pilot scheme to help connect those who are unable to get fast broadband from traditional technologies. The Government will provide those who qualify with a code that meets the upfront cost of a satellite broadband dish and modem installation, normally costing hundreds of pounds.

Avonline Broadband, the largest supplier of satellite broadband to the UK market, has been selected to deliver on the pilot scheme. Managing director Mark Wynn said: "For many homes and businesses in rural areas, satellite broadband is the only realistic solution for a better broadband connection over the next few years. This government plan gives a cost-effective boost to help those affected in Suffolk to take advantage of the technology."

Homes and businesses will only have to pay the ongoing monthly subscription, which varies depending upon the exact package selected.

The scheme aims to benefit from satellite broadband's unique ‘available anywhere' technology that can immediately deliver fast broadband to any home or business in Suffolk, regardless of location, remoteness, or distance from the in-ground telephone network.

Mark Wynn said: "Under BT and the government's plans, around five percent of premises will never get a terrestrial superfast connection because they are too remote for fibre optic upgrade to deliver financial return. Satellite broadband can bridge the gap for these people.

Anyone interested in receiving further details of the scheme and checking eligibility should contact Avonline via email at broadband@avonline.co.uk or by calling 0303 303 3131. More information is available atwww.avonlinebroadband.com
