Selby Technology Centre welcomes public to its Open Day

A Selby horticulture research facility will showcase its wide range of facilities at an Open Day later this month.

The team at Stockbridge Technology Centre is inviting people to join them between 3pm and 8pm on 18thSeptember to gain a valuable insight into the many ways that the research station uses the latest technology to help growers and farmers in the future.

Visitors to the Cawood site will be able to take a trailer ride around the farm to see the work that Stockbridge's scientists are doing with environmental schemes, vegetable trials and seed crops and get expert advice about garden pests and diseases. There will also be guided tours of the glasshouses.

Stockbridge Chief Executive, Graham Ward OBE, is looking forward to welcoming people to Stockbridge House: "Many people are unaware of the variety of exciting projects that we get involved with here at Stockbridge Technology Centre, so the Open Day's a great opportunity for people to get a behind the scenes tour and be inspired by where science can take us."

There will be tomato talks, chutney tastings and a cookery demonstration by Robert Ramsden of Delifresh using tomatoes that have been grown as part of a revolutionary experiment using LED lights and there will be Precision Farming demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

Entry to the Open Day is free and hot and cold refreshments will be available. Local producers, including Bert's Barrow of Hillam and Leventhorpe Vineyard of Leeds will also be selling their produce.

Stockbridge Technology Centre is an independent, not for profit organisation that is wholly owned by the UK horticultural industry and is a centre of excellence in technology transfer to agriculture and horticulture. It conducts commercial work and applied research and development, environmental sustainability and education programmes from its 200 acre site just outside Cawood.
