London, United Kingdom, April 1st2015: The Author School, a creative and innovative new community for aspiring, self-published and published authors, will officially launch on the first day of the London Book Fair (April 14th2015). Meeting a growing need from within the writing community for realistic, practical, helpful, strategic advice, based on genuine experience, The Author School is now accepting registrations of interest to attend the first class viawww.theauthorschool.com.

Co-founded by A. Bello (author) and Helen Lewis (book publicist), a series of classes, workshops, one-to-one tutorials and online courses will be made available, starting with a two and a half hour class to be held in central London on June 6th.

  • The Author School classes will be limited to a maximum of 25 to ensure each student gets the attention they require.

  • A. Bello and Helen Lewis will be available to discuss The Author School and provide advice to authors at the London Book Fair on Tuesday 14thApril on the Literally PR stand (4A13).

  • You can register your interest in attending the first class / future classes by joining the mailing list on the newwebsite.

  • Bookings will be accepted from 13thApril 2015 on a first-come, first-served basis and can be made online. There will be a 10% discount for all bookings made during London Book Fair week (i.e. 13thto 19thApril 2015).

  • The Author School is much more than just a one-off workshop; once you're part of the Community you'll be able to share thoughts and ideas, questions and answers via The Author School site and by email with Helen and Abiola.

WHO IS THE AUTHOR SCHOOL FOR?

The Author School is designed for anyone who has got a manuscript ready to go, or at the very least an idea burning away that just needs to be written. You may already be a published author and in need of some inspiration to revive sales, or perhaps you're considering self-publishing your next book? You may have self-published your first book, but you're now looking at options for what to do with the next...

WHAT WILL THE AUTHOR SCHOOL DO FOR YOU?

In an informal and relaxed environment, with classes of 25 or fewer, you'll get the chance to learn what you can do to help your book stand head and shoulders above the crowded market. You'll leave the class feeling energised, packed with achievable ideas that you can implement almost immediately, and with a strategy for publication. You'll also become part of The Author School Community and will be able to ask questions and discuss ideas via our blog...and hopefully make some new, fellow writer friends in the bargain!

HOW WILL IT WORK?

During a very focused two and a half hour session, we will provide practical advice about your options for publication (self publish or seek an agent, pitch to traditional or indie publishers?) with plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits along the way!

We'll discuss what you need to think about in this hugely competitive marketplace, what people mean by ‘building your brand', what you can and should be doing before you unleash your book onto the public, how to manage some of your own PR, and what you should know about hidden costs, challenges and obstacles faced by most authors.

WHO ARE WE?

Abiola Bello is the author of Emily Knight I AM... a children's book that crosses over to YA. A born and bred Londoner, now aged 26, Abiola wrote her first novel at aged 8, where she fought monsters and dragons daily. She wrote the first in the Emily Knight saga at aged 12, with the intention of filling a gaping hole in children's fiction for an inspirational, strong, black female protagonist (who can fight like a man!). She's since been snapped up by a literary agent and has publishers interested in book two, which she's now finished writing!

Helen Lewis is an NCTJ-trained journalist and publicist with more than 14 years of media experience. In 2013 Helen made it all official and opened Literally PR Ltd. Since then, Literally PR has grown into an international publicity agency and boasts an exceptional track record of success for its clients. Ranging from self-published debut novels (getting national newspaper and consumer magazine coverage) through to New York Times best-selling authors, Literally PR offers a refreshing approach to bringing books to life. Helen Lewis works with a fabulous team of experts with buckets full of journalistic and publicity experience.

WHEN ARE THE CLASSES?

The first class will be held in London on Saturday 6th June 2015 2:00pm to 4:30pm. Places are limited to ensure class sizes remain at a maximum capacity of just 25 people.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The fee is £80 per person per class (there will be a 10% discount for all bookings made during London Book Fair week - April 13thto April 19th).

We want to support and encourage the next generation of writers, and as co-founder A. Bello started writing so young, we feel it is important for us to continue this legacy. As such, there is a 25% discount for under 25s on all classes at The Author School.
