Rutter elected Chairman of local FSB

The Federation for Small Businesses (FSB), the UK's largest campaigning pressure group, welcomes Mike Rutter as chairman of the Yeovil & Mendip branch.

Rutter, a Business Doctor for Bath & North East Somerset, understands the challenges SME's face and is looking forward to supporting them. ‘There are a few complementary goals I personally want to champion,' he commented.

‘I want to improve communication and access between the members of the FSB. We need greater visibility of the membership and more opportunities to meet and find other members,' he added.

The Hinkley project is the development of a new nuclear power station in the South West. Whilst it will create an opportunity for small businesses by improving local economy, it may also be a challenge using lots of resources.

‘I also want to ensure that the branch helps and supports the interests of small businesses in the opportunity and threat that is the Hinkley project.'

As chairman, he will be heavily involved in the committee, providing a bigger voice for small businesses in the area. By communicating with local councils and MPs, he will discuss local issues that may cause a problem for SMEs.

‘There are still a number of key factors affecting small businesses, such as business rates, local traffic issues and many other challenges which, although they may seem small in the general scheme of things, are major issues for those businesses impacted by them.'

Mike will hold this position for a year and Patricia Marks, Regional Chair, is excited to welcome Mike to the team. ‘We are delighted to have Mike join us,' she commented. ‘This year our entire committee is brand new and so we are looking forward to seeing what they bring.'

As a Business Doctor, Mike is responsible for providing support to SMEs in the area. He aims to help them overcome individual problems to achieve the full potential of their businesses. His experience working hands- on gives him a great opportunity to learn about issues facing these businesses, and makes him a great Chairman for FSB Yeovil & Mendip.
