Helps Healing After Hair Transplants

For millions of women hair loss is devastating and affects an estimated 8 million women here in the UK and around half of all men suffer significant hair loss by the age of 50.

Female hair loss is particularly emotionally distressing and often harder to treat than male pattern baldness, and many women comment that their hair is never the same after having children.

However, Sally-Ann Tarver, aFellow and past President of The Trichological Society here in the UK is advisingthat our UK hair transplant surgeons are overlooking the fact that laser treatment actually facilitates healing following hair transplant surgery, by reducing shock loss (post HT surgery hair shedding) and improves the speed of recovery in the newly transplanted hair follicles.

She commented, "The hair transplant patient will see thicker hair much sooner following surgery if a clinical strength laser treatment is administered in the months post surgery.

"And to prove the point, the renowned American HT surgery group Bosley have recently introduced the Theradome LH80 Pro to their patients for this very purpose."

Some laser treatments are also being significantly underrated when examples such as the laser comb and iGrow are used.

Laser combs have up to 12 5mw laser diodes (often far less and lower power), the treatment time is 4 seconds per area before the brush is moved along an inch for another 4 seconds and so on for around 10 minutes in total.

The problem with this is that 4 seconds is not long enough for the light to penetrate the follicle and repeating the pattern over and over again does not improve the penetration in subsequent 4 second treatment doses.

The IGrow uses LED's and lasers. LED's have not been found to have any therapeutic effect on hair growth and the 21 actual lasers (5mw) are too sparsely distributed to give the necessary scalp coverage to facilitate hair growth comparable with that of a clinical machine.

Neither of these home use lasers could be taken seriously by a doctor or trichologist as there is no comparison between them and a clinical machine.

An example of a clinical machine would be the MEP-90, a £40,000 ‘in-clinic' machine with 82 5 mw laser diodes at a wavelength of 670 nm.

It was the first FDA cleared prescription only medical device for the treatment of females with androgenetic alopecia.

She went on to say, "An efficacy study (attached) determined that after 52 treatments (6 months) 97% of the test subjects presented an increased hair count of >20% with 71% having an increased hair count of over 51%.

"When hair counts were conducted at 10, 18, 26 and 52 weeks, 100% of the test subjects presented an upward historical linear trend in hair growth from beginning to end of the treatment period.

"The only home machine which is technically similar to the MEP-90 is the Theradome LH80 pro which has 80 lasers at 670 nm - plus the Theradome has laser diodes which are 2mw stronger than the MEP-90's at 7MW each."

The improved penetration to the hair follicle in a shorter treatment time should produce the same, or possibly marginally better, results on hair growth as the MEP-90.

Sally-Ann who is the MD of Midlands based Theradome GB commented on the Theradome Laser Helmet which has been developed by former biomedical engineer at NASA Tamim Hamid, and said,"The benefits of the Theradome LH80 Pro are that it is available ‘over the counter' (OTC) and a prescription is not necessary to purchase it - and once purchased for use in the home there is no ongoing expense or travelling to a clinic for treatment.

"TheTheradome LH80 Procomes with a full120 day money back guaranteeto enable clients to test the product over a full 4 month period, additional information to purchase may be found atwww.theradomeforhairloss.co.ukor by calling0333 344 0032"
