45.5% OF YEAR 11 PUPILS AT LORD WANDSWORTH COLLEGE GAIN A*-A GRADES IN GCSE RESULTS

Lord Wandsworth College has recorded very pleasing GCSE and IGCSE results again this year. The pupils managed to achieve A* grades in 18.5% of entries, which was an improvement on last year and indeed the best in recent history. A* or A grades were achieved in 45.5% of cases, A* - B grades in 70%, and A*-C in 92%.
Core subjects such as English, Maths and Sciences are traditionally strong at LWC, but the strength in a wide range of other subjects is also notable this year. 83% of pupils studying Music managed A* or A grades for example, and 86% managed grades of A* to B in Drama. Modern languages are under extreme pressure nationally, but remain strong at LWC – 54% managed an A* or A in French and 96% managed at least a C grade.
Headmaster Fergus Livingstone was more than satisfied with the results, despite concerns being expressed in the national press about grade deflation. “At a time of great uncertainty nationally over GCSE grading, it is gratifying to see that we are maintaining our very high standards here at Lord Wandsworth College. Our overall range of marks has been very consistent over the last five or so years. We always have a significant number of very able children who achieve A* grades in either all or nearly all their subjects, but we measure ourselves on the value we add to a wide range of abilities. A number of candidates have worked very hard and have such good marks under their belts that they can look forward to starting A levels here next year with real confidence. GCSE grades are likely to become all the more important to university applicants in the coming years, a situation which we are in a position to welcome.”
