Friday 27 September 2013 saw leading plastic manufacturer, Stewart, take home the Supplier Partnership award for Ancillary Machinery at this year's Plastic Industry Awards for its work with Summit Systems. As popular as the Oscars in the UK plastic industry, the Black Tie event was held at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

Stewart is a UK manufacturer and market leader in rotational and injection moulded products. Stewart's expertise stretch across a wide range of industry sectors including aerospace, automotive, medical, technical moulding, garden, home and catering. Products manufactured by Stewart include pots, propagators, food containers and specialist storage products.

Richard Butler, CEO of Stewart said "It's fantastic to take away best new installation of ancillary systems jointly with our service provider Summit Systems."

The installation covers:

  • Materials supply to all machinery

  • Vacuum draw of materials

  • Materials mixing and blending

  • Bag and silo storage systems

The system was designed jointly by Richard Butler and engineers from Summit. The installation was overseen by Phil Haslam, Stewart's Logistics and Service Director.

This year, Stewart installed a 3 axis Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). Butler goes on to say: "The installation of the CMM will match Stewart's new growth, revolutionise our manufacturing process and increase our profitability. The machine is of an extremely powerful standard, and our technical experts look forward to working with this great piece of equipment, furthering our expertise within the technical division."

The Plastics Industry Awards was launched in 2001 and is now firmly established as the most respected accolade for the plastics industry, the Plastics Industry awards recognise excellence in materials usage, design and manufacturing as well as training and environmental performance. With 15 categories judged by a panel of industry experts, there are opportunities for supplier companies, OEM manufacturers, plastics processors, consultants and designers to all showcase their work.

The Plastics Industry Awards has been a sell out event for the past three years; this year 800 people attended these prestigious awards.

Two specialist divisions, Stewart Technical and Stewart Packaging, provide bespoke technical moulding and packaging expertise and services to many manufacturing industries.

Stewart's Fully Automated factory is home to micro controlled machines, including several Engle 300 machines and an Engle 700 machine, giving them enviable large machine capacity and fast manufacturing cycles.
