Boutique Huddersfield B&B featured on Channel 4 put on market

Boutique Huddersfield B&B featured on Channel 4 goes on market for £395,000

The owner of a Huddersfield bed and breakfast that memorably appeared on the Channel Four show "Four in a Bed" has put the business up for sale with a guide price of £395,000. 72-year-old John Whitworth, a former catalogue model and ski instructor, has appointed Blacks Business Brokers, the national business transfer specialist with an office in Leeds, to find a buyer for the Edge Accommodation at Longwood Edge.

The Edge, which commands panoramic views over the Pennines and Colne Valley, was opened as a boutique B&B and function venue by Mr Whitworth in 2016. Its unique architecture is described by him as, "A Tudor-style hacienda/Tyrolean/American ranch-style English Farmhouse."

The single-storey property, which is decorated and furnished throughout in a sumptuous "shabby chic" style, includes four en-suite guest rooms, a guest lounge/study and a substantial bar/function room with a large dancefloor and seating for 50. It also comes with a well-equipped kitchen and owner's accommodation in the form of a large en-suite family room.

Outside is a garden and picnic area as well as a balcony with sweeping views over the town and surrounding moors. The business has glowing online reviews and an attractive, modern website with a booking facility.

The Edge Accommodation is on course to turn over £50,000 in the current financial year. Although the lettings side of the business is currently very busy, its fully licensed bar/function room offers great scope for a new owner to increase revenues.

Shannon Forrester, marketing facilitator at Blacks Business Brokers, said, "This is a solidly trading business but a new owner could take advantage of the large seating area to make more of the events side of the operation. Offering evening meals would also open up a new potential revenue stream.

"This is a unique property in a beautiful location just a mile from the M62 motorway and three miles from Huddersfield town centre. It's a perfect lifestyle business and offers a great opportunity for a new owner to come in and build on its reputation and client base."

Once the Edge is sold Mr Whitworth, who runs the business with the help of one part-time member of staff, plans to retire. Assuming planning permission is forthcoming he hopes to convert a nearby livestock shed, on land he also owns, into a log cabin-style home for himself.
