Home is where the heart is for Rolawn as the Yorkshire Dales relocate to Chelsea

Press release

18 May 2018

Rolawn, the UK's premium turf and topsoil supplier is working with Welcome to Yorkshire, the region's tourism destination specialist, to provide 60 square metres of Medallion® Turf for its 2018 RHS Chelsea show garden. Medallion® was chosen for its ability to establish quickly and provide a high quality and wear resistant carpet of home-grown turf to complement the truly Yorkshire scene.

The show garden, designed by Yorkshire-born garden architect and designer Mark Gregory, celebrating his 30th consecutive year at Chelsea, has a truly regional flavour, with Mark taking the stunning Yorkshire Dales as the inspiration behind his concept.

Rolawn Managing Director, Paul Dawson said: "Medallion® is Yorkshire ‘sown and grown' and Mark's garden for Welcome to Yorkshire will bring an authentic slice of the region to the world's most famous flower and garden show. We are delighted to support Welcome to Yorkshire by supplying Britain's finest turf to its display and proud that it comes from Yorkshire from a company which has been based in the county for more than 40 years."

Rolawn's award winning Medallion® turf is grown and cultivated in Yorkshire and will provide the foundation of the garden which will showcase the very best of ‘God's Own Country'. Designed to be a visual feast, the garden will aim to stimulate the senses with the smells and tastes of the famous national park. Mark Gregory's vision also reveals woodland, lush pastures, varied plants and flowers, a cultivated cottage garden and a tumbling beck with dramatic fast flowing water. Pride of place in the garden will go to a stone bothy - converted into a craftsman's creamery where genuine artisan cheese production will take place.

Garden designer Mark Gregory said: "Marking 30 years at the greatest flower show on earth is a significant moment for me and what better way to celebrate than with a return to designing a garden inspired by the place that shaped me as a person? And with the Yorkshire theme running through it, what better turf to include than Rolawn's home-grown Medallion?!"

Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire said: "We're delighted to be back at the prestigious Chelsea flower show for the ninth year running, bringing a garden inspired by the stunning Yorkshire Dales to the heart of London for the whole world to see."
