Milton Keynes nurses praised

Two nurses from CNWL's Milton Keynes services have been praised by senior management after receiving health awards.

Sarah Higgins, who works with our Milton Keynes mental health services, completed the six month Mary Seacole Programme, run by the NHS Leadership Academy, which was created to help NHS staff develop knowledge and skills in leadership and management.

Lorraine Gardiner, who works with the Home First Service in MK, received the title of Queen's Nurse from The Queen's Nursing Institute. The Queen's Nursing Institute is a charity dedicated to improving the nursing care of people in their home and community.

The title ‘Queen's Nurse' is given to nurses who show a high level of commitment to patient care and nursing. To be eligible, nurses must work in the community for more than three years, receive recommendations from patients and managers and if shortlisted, must then submit a substantial essay on their work.

Louise Morton, Divisional Director of Nursing for our Diggory Division, which oversees services in Milton Keynes said: "Many congratulations to Sarah on completing the Mary Seacole Leadership Programme. It recognises and supports compassionate clinical leadership, enabling clinical leaders to engage, influence and deliver services of the highest quality within the context of their services and resources. We are proud to have a MS graduate amongst our nurse leaders.

"We are really proud to have a new Queen's Nurse in the Division. The award of QN is a tremendous achievement and is an acknowledgement of Lorraine's experience and expertise. These awards are not given lightly and reflect a significant amount of hard work and commitment."
