Recycling and Waste Strategy goes before Scrutiny

Members of the Environmental Scrutiny Committee will review a revised strategy aimed at increasing Cardiff recycling rates tomorrow.

The ‘Recycling & Waste Management Strategy 2018 -2021' proposes increasing the number of wheeled bins, a pilot scheme for separate collections of domestic glass and education station changes at Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Chair of the Environmental Scrutiny Committee, Cllr Ramesh Patel said: "Last month my Committee received a presentation on the basic principles behind this strategy but we now look forward to carrying out pre-decision scrutiny of the draft strategy. We all appreciate the importance of recycling and of the need to meet statutory obligations. Cardiff has a very proud tradition in terms of good recycling rates and it is hoped that this new strategy will enable further progress to be made in this regard."

Committee Members will also receive an update on the ongoing Greener Grangetown scheme. A sustainable drainage improvement programme run in partnership with Dwr Cymru and Natural Resources Wales.

The Environmental Scrutiny Committee meeting starts at 4:30 pm on Tuesday 15 May and is webcast live here:https://cardiff.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/351197
