Families invited to head to Bridlington fairway for free fun day

Saturday May 19 is a date that's already pencilled into many people's diaries, whether it's because they're looking forward to the Royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle or the FA Cup Final, which will take place later that day at Wembley Stadium.

But the date is circled on Bridglington Golf Club's calendar for a different reason - they're partnering up with Skipsea-based business Village Farm Marquees to hold a free family fun day at the Belvedere Road club grounds.

However, there's no need for Royal wedding and sports fans to worry about missing either of the day's other big events though, as both will be broadcast on the big screen in the clubhouse.

There's plenty of fun in store for folks of all ages from 1pm to 5pm. Vaughan Parker, Club Captain at Bridlington Golf Club, said: "We're hoping families will pop along and have a go at some of the golfing challenges we've set up, and we're also running a fun inter-school golf competition for primary school children to try to find the next Rory McIlroy.

"It should be a great opportunity for people to find out a bit more about the club and what it offers, or simply come along and enjoy a relaxing afternoon in a lovely location."

Entertainment includes a bouncy castle and an ice-cream van, plus performances by the East Riding of Yorkshire Band, who will be bringing a British musical flavour to the day in honour of the Royal wedding with traditional tunes including Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory, as well as some serene sounds from the harmonious Coastal Voices Choir. The golf club will be putting on a delicious cream tea for visitors to buy in the marquee, provided by Village Farm Marquees, from 3pm to 5pm.

The event will also give anyone who's perhaps looking for a celebration venue a chance to peruse the picturesque grounds, the clubhouse, and the marquee, which will be dressed for a wedding to give visitors an insight into how things could look on their special day.

Chrysta Newman, Co-director of Village Farm Marquees, said: "The clubhouse is already available to hire but this addition of a beautiful marquee out in the grounds brings a whole new dimension to the package on offer for brides-to-be or anyone who'd like to host a large event.

"It will also create a lovely environment for people to sit down and enjoy their cream tea and the musical accompaniment during the fun day."

The clubhouse and marquee will be open to view from 11am to 2pm, and the Village Farm Marquees team will be on hand to give advice and answer any queries.
