ADDENBROOKE'S CHOOSES ARTEMIS DYNAMIC MATTRESSES
With the focus on providing optimum patient care and comfort alongside the prevention of pressure ulcers - one of the major safety and cost challenges facing the NHS today - Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge has signed an agreement with Drive DeVilbiss Sidhil for the supply and maintenance of Artemis dynamic mattresses for a five year period from 2017 to 2022.
An internationally renowned teaching hospital, Addenbrooke's is run by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and has strong affiliations to the University of Cambridge. The hospital is a designated academic health science centre (AHSC) with an important role to play in ensuring that medical research breakthroughs lead to direct clinical benefits for patients.
The Artemis mattress was selected following extensive ward-based performance trials, where the levels of flexibility offered by Artemis proved an important consideration for the Addenbrooke's team. This advanced dual therapy system is suitable for diverse patient requirements, offering defined clinical benefits and providing a single solution which eliminated the need for multiple mattress systems, making both product selection and training easy and quick for staff.
Developed in line with current nursing procedures, delivering the full range of care up to very high risk as defined by the EPUAP and NICE guidelines, Artemis is a fully automatic dynamic mattress with a range of high end functions to support acute care needs. The surfaces combine alternating therapy for effective pressure relief with constant low pressure to reduce peak pressures, a pulsation mode to support peripheral blood flow and a max inflate mode.
In addition, Artemis is truly dynamic, incorporating automatic and intuitive pressure adjustment, with internal pressures determined by the individual patient's weight. Constant monitoring enables pressures to change automatically to accommodate the changing movement and positioning of the patient.
Implementation of the Artemis systems was completed successfully within a two week period, with over 1,000 staff trained in the use of the systems, and Addenbrooke's now has more than 250 Artemis mattresses in use at any given time. Drive DeVilbiss Sidhil supports the contract with three on-site technicians providing 12 hour cover seven days a week, working to a schedule ensuring 30 minute installation times and four hour collection/breakdown times.
The contract also calls for a number of Lullaby dynamic pressure cradles for paediatric use as well as Artemis seat cushions to provide 24 hour care for more vulnerable patients. The Lullaby alternating pressure mattress is a three cell dynamic system designed around narrow cells to match the requirements of smaller patients.
