RTITB Event to Help Training Providers Comply with New Data Protection Law

With new data protection laws on the horizon, RTITB is hosting an event to help logistics and transport training providers ensure that they comply.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new law which comes into effect on 25th May 2018 and applies to anyone who collects, uses and stores personal data, either electronically or in paper filing systems.

As training providers collect personal data from the trainee, the new law considers them a ‘data controller’ or ‘data processor’, depending on how this data is used.  This means there is potentially two different sets of regulations that training providers must understand and adhere to.  Failure to comply can result in significant fines of up to €20 million, or 4 per cent of total global revenue of the preceding year, whichever is greatest.

To enable training organisations to understand this somewhat complex new law, achieve compliance and avoid fines, RTITB is hosting a GDPR seminar on 8th March at its headquarters in Telford, West Midlands.

“The new law has the potential to be a real challenge to material handling equipment and Driver CPC training providers,” says Laura Nelson, Managing Director for RTITB. “Although there are many expensive GDPR events on offer, we know that these will not appreciate and address the specific needs of our industry.”

“RTITB is committed to making life easier for the transport training sector, so this seminar has been tailored to its needs,” continues Laura.  “It is designed to offer value for money while supporting hard working training providers who already have enough to do.”

The session will be run by leading data protection specialist Helena Wootton from Browne Jacobson, a multi-award winning, top-60 national law firm.  Helena has more than 16 years’ experience and is accredited by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) as a Certified Privacy Professional.

The agenda for the 3-hour seminar will not only cover the background to GDPR and what this means to training providers, but also sanctions and liability, and the practical steps that businesses can take towards compliance.

Over half the tickets for the event have already sold so training providers are encouraged to book now to avoid disappointment. Tickets are priced at £15+VAT including refreshments and a light lunch.
