Not
for profit mobility specialists Akcess CIC have appointed Nicky Hamlen as their
new operations director, to oversee the day to day running of the business and
to concentrate on growth strategies.
The organisation, which provides transport to
schools and within the community for people with disabilities, wheelchair users
and people with restricted mobility, relies heavily on the management of its
logistics to oversee the rotas of some 180 drivers.
Nicky has a long history with Akcess, having
initially worked for the organisation as a driver, before moving into the taxi
and delivery business as a driver and then an operator. Nicky brought with her
the organisational and industry skills she learned in these related sectors of
the transport industry when she moved back to Akcess 18 months ago as an
operations manager. She brought a huge amount of experience to the company in
managing the logistics of a large number of drivers, as well as five office
staff, and also working with various sub-contractors, making her a logical
choice for the post.
About her new role, she said: "Akcess are a
fantastic company who do so much good for some of the most vulnerable people in
society, helping those with limited mobility and the elderly go about their day
to day lives as independently as possible.
"Akcess gave me my start in the industry as
a driver, and it always felt right that I should be able to go back to the
company and give something back to them and the community with all I've learned
since. I'm extremely excited to take on a new challenge, and I can't wait to
help us expand our services to help even more people."
Mark Kennedy, managing director of Akcess CIC,
said: "Nicky has made a big impact on the business ever since she
re-joined the team at head office, and her organisational skills will be a
tremendous asset to the company going forward. In this role, Nicky will be able
to help us drive the business forward by streamlining our current operations,
and helping us to integrate new ones as seamlessly as possible."
With more than 100 vehicles and nearly 200
drivers and staff, Akcess CIC is a major provider of mobility services to
schools in the Swindon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire councils and in the local
area, where they also provide day centre access for the elderly. More than
two-thirds of their fleet is wheelchair accessible, more than any transport
company in Wiltshire.
