High Tech Company Commits to Teesside's Wilton Centre

PRESS RELEASE

30 January 2018

HIGH TECH COMPANY COMMITS TO A FURTHER 10 YEARS

AT TEESSIDE’S WILTON CENTRE

A specialist high tech company has taken a new lease on its office and laboratory space at the Wilton Centre, Teesside’s premier science and business park.

Micropore Technologies Ltd (Micropore), which has patented a membrane emulsification and encapsulation process which can used across the pharmaceutical, food, agro-chemicals, aerospace and research sectors, has committed itself to a further 10 years in its 1,300 sq ft of laboratory and office space at the Wilton Centre.

Originally a high-technology spin-out of Loughborough University, Micropore re-located from the East Midlands to the Wilton Centre, attracted by the quality of premises, and choosing Teesside for the strength of the formulation knowledge base and supply chain, employable skill base and calibre of investors.

In November 2016, the company received an investment of £270,000 from UK Steel Enterprise, the Tata Steel business-support subsidiary, and the North East Angel Fund managed by Rivers Capital Partners, in order to increase its process to industrial production level and to grow its team and customer base.

Winning the NEPIC Award for Innovation 2018 (in January 2018) for a game-changing new industrial-scale product is a significant milestone at the end of a three-year period of product development for Micropore.  The company is now looking to export new products which will enable formulation companies to increase yields and improve productivity across a wide variety of market sectors, including drug delivery, personal care, flavours and fragrances and agrochemicals.

“We have strong working relationships with a portfolio of exciting and exacting clients and work confidentially with them on their novel, leading-edge formulation developments,” says Micropore Chief Executive Dai Hayward.

Steve Duffield, Site Director at the Wilton Centre says: “Micropore committing itself to a further 10 years at the Wilton Centre underlines its position as the North East’s premier science and business park, and follows an extremely successful few months which has seen companies of all sizes moving to the Wilton Centre, expanding their facilities, or committing to their existing space on long term leases.”

Stephen Brown, Senior Partner at Dodds Brown is the letting agent for the office space at the Wilton Centre.  He says: “It’s not just the Wilton Centre’s unique combination of office, laboratory and process development space and the growing cluster of high tech and process companies which attracts tenants, but its position next to the Wilton International site, good road, rail, air and port links, and the opportunity to work in close proximity with all sizes of similar organisations from multi-nationals to individual operators.”

Micropore’s commitment at the 75 acre science and business park follows hard on the heels of US company Calysta expanding its facilities and the CPI signing a new lease on its 47,000 sq ft of accommodation.

Wilton Centre is a leading, privately-owned science and business park located in the heart of Teesside just five minutes’ drive from Middlesbrough.  It provides a wide range of top quality office, laboratory and pilot plant accommodation at competitive rental terms with immediate occupancy.  Set in a 75 acre landscaped site, it has its own lake and boasts 1,600 free car parking spaces.
