CHASE AWAY THE BLUES AT CARDIFF LIBRARIES AND HUBS

Libraries and hubs across the city have the perfect antidote to the January blues next week with a packed day full of activities and information.

Central Library Hub hosts a Blue Monday event on Monday, January 15 (11am - 3pm) with a number of taster sessions and workshops to encourage people to try something different in the New Year. Activities include crafting for mindfulness, yoga, tai chi, creative writing, cake decorating and learning French.

Staff from Cathays Branch and Heritage Library will deliver sessions on the information and resources available at the library for anyone interested in researching their family tree or learning more about local history.

A number of organisations will also attend the Central Library Hub event including Samaritans, Time to Change and Recovery Cymru.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lynda Thorne, said: "Blue Monday is claimed to be the most depressing day of the year but with all the activities and information we have on offer next Monday, our libraries and hubs will be offering plenty of cheer and positivity to our customers.

"We want to encourage people to try something new, to come along and meet new people. Many people can feel down at this time of year while isolation and loneliness can have a real impact on a person's health all year round.

"Taking up a new hobby or just meeting new people regularly can have a really positive effect on a person's wellbeing and help to counter feelings of isolation and solitude. There's something for everyone at Central Library Hub on Monday including information and advice from our partner agencies for those looking for support.

"Aside from this special event, our libraries and hubs can play an important role in the

health and wellbeing of our customers. They are real focal points in their communities, hosting activities and groups each week where people can meet, join in and receive information about services in the area."
