Dr de Zulueta - GP and Therapist - joins the Grenfell Outreach Team

For immediate publication

CNWL is pleased to welcome Dr Paquita de Zulueta to the Grenfell Outreach Team; a very experienced clinician, working for over 30 years in healthcare.

Dr de Zulueta has been volunteering in the Grenfell area, and lives nearby. She volunteers with Doctors of the World, the medical charity that specialises in undocumented vulnerable people who have difficulties accessing healthcare.

Paquita qualified in medicine at Cambridge University in 1978 and worked in hospital medicine before qualifying as a GP in 1984; she is also a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, a coach specialising in resilience building, and a clinical ethicist.

She said: "I will be working with existing GP and Primary Care services (including out of hours), but there may be occasions when I provide a limited one-stop mobile service e.g. if visiting a hotel and an individual or family cannot reach a GP in time to renew their medication or are anxious to have their Blood Pressure or Blood Sugar Level checked, or have another medical concern. I will also offer general advice on self-care and coping strategies, as well as trauma screening and referral.

"I plan to act as a bridge between primary care and the Outreach team. I will be communicating with GPs about their patients - making sure patients have an appointment if needed, or, if they are not registered locally, ensuring they are managed appropriately.

"I could do some regular sessions in GP practices and offer trauma screening, provide stabilisation and appropriate referral, being guided by the patient's needs and preferences.

"I have been moved by the many courageous people from Grenfell I've met and our service needs to provide what they need, in the way that they want it.

Ann Sheridan, CNWL's Borough Director for Kensington & Chelsea, said: "Paquita is a very experienced and highly qualified doctor. What shines through is her compassion and understanding of what living in trauma is like; I know she will help people find the helping hand they may need from the NHS. The hard working Outreach Team already does a fabulous job but this is appointment will help extend our reach."
