JEWISH VETERANS REMEMBER

THE ASSOCIATION OF JEWISH EX-SERVICEMEN & WOMEN

MEDIA ADVISORY NOTE

BACKGROUND

Thousand of Jewish veterans and their supporters will be joined by Jewish members of HM Forces at the Cenotaph, Whitehall, London on Sunday 19 November to remember all British, Commonwealth and Allied servicemen and women who gave their lives in two world wars and later conflicts.

Colonel Martin Newman, chairman of The Association of Jewish Ex-servicemen & Women, and also chairman of The Jewish Committee for HM Forces believes that the parade, which has been held every year for over 80 years is as important as ever. He said: "Sadly we are again seeing an increase in anti-Semitism in this country and one of the usual cries is that Jews do not serve. Nothing could be further from the truth. British and Commonwealth Jews served in disproportionately high numbers in both world wars and continue to serve in our armed forces today. We have suffered losses in more recent conflicts including Northern Ireland, The Falklands and Afghanistan."

Sunday's Parade will be led by a band of the Brigade of Guards and the reviewing officer will be former Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Peter Wall.

MEDIA FACILITY

Accredited media, publications, photographers and broadcast agencies are invited to attend the event. Because of the high levels of security you will need to apply for a press pass by contacting Jacques Weisser on 0208 202 2323 or Jacques@ajex.org.uk

The parade will commence at Horse Guards Parade, assembling from 1330 and will move to the Cenotaph for the service conducted by the Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis at 1400. Press passes will give access to all areas. Interviews can also be arranged on request.
