East Yorkshire poultry specialists in battle to be crowned best meat in Yorkshire

T.Soanes and Son poultry specialists have been shortlisted for the 2017 deliciouslyorkshireTaste Awards.

The Middleton on the Wolds business is up for the Best Fresh Meat title with its grain fed chicken fillet and is competing against three other finalists in November's awards.

It is the only poultry supplier in the category that includes two producers of steak and one of lamb.

Nigel Upson, general manager atT.Soanes and Son, said the team is delighted to be shortlisted.

"It's wonderful to be recognised for our products, and reaching the final of this prestigious award is a real boost for the business. We are passionate about rearing chickens to high welfare standards, and awards like these validate our provenance, product quality and exceptional taste.

Regarded as one of the largest and most respected food and drink awards in the region, the Taste Awards are organised by deliciouslyorkshire, the campaigning group that aims to make Yorkshire food and drink the consumer's first choice by respecting tradition, encouraging innovation and celebrating great taste.

Judy Bell, chairman of deliciouslyorkshire, said: "We're really excited to launch this year's awards with a fantastic new look!  The Taste Awards are our showcase event for the year and always turn up some fantastic new and innovative products which is always really exciting."

During a week of judging in September, a panel of industry experts including chefs, supermarkets buyers, food critics and industry experts taste tested and provided feedback on all entries.

The winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony that will be held on November 1st at the Pavilions of Harrogate. Guests will enjoy an evening of champagne, local food and celebration that will be hosted by BBC Radio 2 food critic, Nigel Barden and chef consultant, Steph Moon.

In a year that sees the company celebrate its 70th anniversary, T.Soanes and Son was also awarded a gold star at the Guild of Fine Food Great Taste Awards for its free range whole chicken and for its whole Christmas cockerel earlier in the year.
