Committee to review taxi standards in Cardiff

Cardiff's Environmental Scrutiny Committee is due to receive an item on Cardiff's taxi services at its meeting on Tuesday, October 3.

At the meeting, councillors supporting the Committee will review current taxi standards in the city; discuss the challenges facing the taxi industry in Cardiff and consider how improvements could potentially be achieved.

Councillor Ramesh Patel, Chair of Cardiff's Environmental Scrutiny Committee, who will be running the meeting, explained: "Taxis operating in Cardiff provide a very important role in keeping our city moving.

"They support all sections of our society, but in particular are an essential service to many of our most vulnerable people. This means that the Council has a responsibility to ensure that high standards are maintained.

"There is a public perception that a number of problems exist within Cardiff's taxi services, for example, the regular refusal of short fares and the blocking of bus lanes.

"It is the role of the Environmental Scrutiny Committee to test this perception and make suggestions for improvement if it deems necessary."

The item on Cardiff's Taxi Services will be received by Cardiff's Environmental Scrutiny Committee at 5.30pm on Tuesday, October 3.
