MIDDLESBROUGH’S FIRST YOUTH MARKET - Traders and Performers Wanted

PRESS RELEASE

5 September 2017

ENTREPRENEURS AND PERFORMERS WANTED FOR

MIDDLESBROUGH’S FIRST YOUTH MARKET

Middlesbrough College and Dundas Indoor Market and Shopping Centre are calling for budding young entrepreneurs and performers to take part in Middlesbrough’s first Youth Market on Saturday 4 November.

Market stalls are free for young people, between the ages of 16 and 25, to sell a range of goods and services from 10am to 4pm, while there will be slots throughout the day where young musicians and entertainers can perform.

“We want to encourage young people to try their hand at trading for a day in a safe and supported environment, to see if they could consider it as a career,” says Dundas Market Manager David Harris.

“We’ve teamed up with Middlesbrough College to encourage their students to take part, but we also have the backing of The Prince’s Trust and Five Lamps, to ensure that we get as many young people on board as possible.”

The day of the Dundas Youth Market promises to be a lively affair, according to Mr Harris.  He continues: “There will be live music and performances throughout the day, so we want young people to register if they want to take part.

“Dundas Market is the acknowledged home of the entrepreneur in Middlesbrough, with many new businesses choosing to open here in the last two months.  It’s a busy, lively and exciting market which is growing fast, and we are very much looking forward to staging our first Youth Market.”

Part of the Dundas Shopping Centre, Dundas Market is the only indoor market in Middlesbrough.  Open six days a week from Monday to Saturday, it has more than 20 welcoming market stalls, including the award-winning Brickyard Bakery, Sweet Corner, Jean’s Kitchen and Danny’s Family Butchers, selling everything from handbags to gladrags, furniture to fizzbombs, make ups to vapes, candles to mirrors, babywear to bhajis and low fat Chicken Shawarmas, as well as mobile phone and tablet repairs.

In addition to the Youth Market, Dundas Shopping Centre holds monthly Food and Craft, and Vintage and Handmade Markets, along with other many events.
