An independent Living Scheme in Stafford has been transformed into the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for a summer party based on the popular film.

Every year, Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) staff and residents dress up for a themed event that's become one of the most eagerly awaited dates in the calendar at Jubilee Court.

Previous themes have included Viva Las Vegas and the 1970s, but this year's event was spiced up with authentic Indian food prepared by care and support worker Suki Bains.

Elaine Tomlinson, Extra Care Manager at Jubilee Court, explained: "The food was fantastic and proved a real treat for everyone, even those who had never tried Indian food before. As well as cooking a fine selection of starters and curry main courses, Suki also wowed us with a cookery demonstration.

"She even provided the beautiful traditional costumes worn by staff and customers on the day, which added to the impression of living the life depicted in the film, which told the tale of a group of older people looking for an adventure and a new life in India."

Jubilee Court is home to around 40 SARH customers, many of whom require extra care, and is one of the housing association's 18 Independent Living Schemes that cater for a wide range of people who enjoy the additional security and peace of mind of being part of a close-knit community whilst maintaining their independence.

The schemes regularly host social events and other activities to help build a sense of community spirit.

Karen Armitage, SARH Chief Executive, added: "I'm delighted to see everyone at Jubilee Court coming together for what was a really fun and inspiring event.

"A big thank you goes to Elaine, Suki, and the rest of the extra care team, together with all our customers who took part, for making the summer party at Jubilee Court the best yet."
