Jousting returns to Cardiff Castle in a rip -roaring medieval adventure

A huge favourite with the crowds and a fantastic family day out, ‘The Knights of Royal England' return for their 10thanniversary at Cardiff Castle with Joust! - a dazzling show and an epic display of jousting and horsemanship on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 July.

Reckless and brave, skilful and fiercely competitive, the knights stop at nothing as they charge at full tilt at breakneck speed on their trusty steeds. Lances splinter as the knights take to battle from the saddle in some spectacular horseback stunts.

Knights and dragons, strolling musicians, storytelling, falconry and a village encampment to explore makes for a magical medieval day out. Watch how maille (chainmail) and arrows were made, try on armour and find out some gruesome details about medieval medicine from the barber surgeon.

With a perfect excuse to dress up as a knight or princess, children can join in the dragon procession, children's parade and have a go at juggling and circus skills. New for this year is a spectacular rolling wooden horse which children can get on to practise their jousting skills. Keep an eye out for two very friendly dragons who make several appearances throughout the day.

Cabinet Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Peter Bradbury said, "Joust! has entertained thousands of visitors over the past 10 years and continues to be as popular as ever and a huge favourite with the crowds. Authentic and thrilling, it is a superb action - packed family event and a great way to travel back in time."
