VEENO TO LAUNCH LOW SUGAR WINES!

Following on from successfully bringing the Aperitivo culture to the UK, Veeno, The Italian Wine Café are tackling the low sugar market.

Veeno source their wine from co-founder Nino’s family vineyard in Marsala, Sicily. The Caruso family have been growing vines there since the 19th century. Having such a close relationship between the vineyard and the wine cafés means that only the best quality wines make it from grape to glass. It’s this relationship that has allowed them to experiment with a number of blends over the last year in order to achieve two (very tasty) low sugar wines, one red and one white.

VINIFICATION

ZERO GRECANICO - CHARDONNAY

DENOMINATION

Terre Siciliane Indicazione Geografica Protetta

VARIETIES
50% Grecanico – 50% Chardonnay

The grapes are handpicked in the third decade of August. Sudden reduction  of  the  temperature  of  the grapes  and  soft  pressing  of  the  whole  grape,  static  clearing of  the  must,  fermentation  at  controlled  temperature  of 15°C for 20 days in stainless steel tanks. Addition of specific yeast selected in order to ferment almost the whole sugar content.

AGEING

4 months in stainless steel tanks.

WINEMAKER’S NOTES

Bright color with green reflects. The enological cleanness and incredible freshness of the Grecanico combined with the elegance and aromatic richness of our Chardonnay, create an intriguing explosion followed by a persistent mineral feeling in the mouth. Its aromatic profile is characterized by white flowers, green vegetables and Mediterranean herbs.

Suitable for vegetarians.

FOOD MATCHING

Fantastic as aperitif, but goes well also with oysters and special raw fish dishes.

TECHNICAL DATA

Alcohol 11% vol.

ZERO FRAPPATO - SYRAH

DENOMINATION

Terre Siciliane Indicazione Geografica Protetta

VARIETIES

50% Frappato – 50% Syrah

VINIFICATION

The  grapes  are  vinified  in  stainless  steel  for  12  days  with skin  contact  at  a  temperature  of  24-26°C.  Malolactic fermentation, in stainless steel tanks. Addition of specific yeast selected in order to ferment almost the whole sugar content.

AGEING

6 months in stainless steel tanks.

WINEMAKER’S NOTES

Intense ruby color with purple highlights. An exciting marriage between the well-known Syrah, grown in our vineyards where the hills reach up to 400 meters altitude, and the Frappato, a  Sicilian gem that gives the wine a delicate fruitiness. Serve it slightly chilled to bring out its fresh notes of wild berries and elegant spices.

FOOD MATCHING

It perfectly matches with tuna steaks, tomato or salmon based pasta dishes.

TECHNICAL DATA

Alcohol 11.5% vol.

Veeno will be launching these two new wines at each of their cafés on Thursday 29th June and customers can sign up to taste them at www.theveenocompany.com/zero-wine. They will also be available to buy online and in store with a special buy one get one free offer at www.theveenostore.com. (Available online from Thursday 29th June)

The story began for the company's co-founders Nino & Andrea in 2013 when they met playing a game of football in Manchester, both missed the Italian aperitivo culture, the ritual of drinking, nibbling and relaxing after work. By the end of the year they had opened their first wine café, and the rest is history or “Il resto e’ storia” as they say in Italy!
