There are two categories of modern electric hobs: ceramic and induction. Although the functionality of the two can vary dramatically, they have a number of characteristics in common.

Electric hobs offer the most practical solution where gas is not available or where there are children or elderly in the home. They come with a number of safety features such as indicators to show when a zone is still hot to the touch, and locks that stop the hob from being operational until the right combination of buttons is pressed.

Whether you are cooking for a dinner party or your family, choosing the right hob is important. All BLANCO hobs boast innovative features to make cooking safe and enjoyable; and they are rigorously tested to withstand many years of use even in the busiest kitchen.

Induction or Ceramic; how do you choose?

BLANCO has developed a wide range of induction hobs.

How does induction work?

The induction hob provides the most efficient method of cooking; this is thanks to a magnetic field which instantly transforms your pan into the heat source. The coil beneath the ceramic glass does not heat up during this process which means all of the energy is transmitted to the base of the pan only. Therefore, the pan heats only the food, not the hob. BLANCO induction hobs eliminate hot spots due to the heat cooking zones being designed so that the whole base of the pan is evenly heated.

Will it suit my kitchen?

A ceramic hob refers to the finish of the hob rather than its functionality. Both standard electric hobs and induction hobs are made with  ceramic glass and fitted flush with your worktop giving a stylish and sleek look. BLANCO also offers stainless steel trims with the ceramic models to match with your stainless steel appliances. These hobs are perfect for a contemporary kitchen design; and will work with traditional too. Why not combine modern technology and convenience with a tradition kitchen style?

Do I need special pans?

On a standard ceramic hob, you can use pretty much any saucepans. You only need to consider different pans if you are purchasing an induction hob due to the method in which induction hobs work by creating a magnetic field. Cast iron pans and any black metal or iron pans will work on an induction cooking surface. Stainless steel pans will work on an induction cooking surface if the base of the pan is a magnetic grade of stainless steel. The way to tell if a saucepan is induction hob friendly is to hold a magnet to the bottom!

Have I got enough space?

Enough space will, of course, impact the size of hob you choose. BLANCO boasts a range of four-ring hobs and the larger six-ring hobs depending on your cooking needs. Also consider the depth of the hob as it needs to be sunk into your work surface. All BLANCO hobs fit into a standard size work surface.

What functionality do I require from my hob?

Another main consideration when selecting the right hob for you is the functionality you require. Dual zones allow you to operate an inner zone within the main ring so you can save energy when cooking with smaller pans. Child safety locks can stop inquisitive children from operating the hob by accident. Do you require a hob power boost? Are timers an important function that may make your life easier? And probably, most importantly, are you looking for a mains fitted hob or a plug in? Why not browse through our full range of hobs to understand the functionality or download our brochure for more information?
