2017 Absorbine Grooms of the Year Award

Doncaster showing enthusiast nominated for national award
Martin Spoor (57) from Doncaster has been nominated as a finalist in the Absorbine Amateur Groom of the Year Awards. Voting for the finalists is now open, and the winner will be announced at the end of season Showing World/ Showing Council Personality of the Year Awards Gala dinner on the 21st October at the East of England Showground, Peterborough.
Asset Manager Martin has been nominated for this award by his fourteen-year-old son Ben. Martin said: "Ben won the Showing Council, Junior Young Handler Award in 2016 and in return he has nominated me for this award as a thank you for helping him and driving him to shows." To get into the finals of the Absorbine Groom of the Year Award, grooms have to be nominated and then a selection panel decides on the four amateur finalists.
The Spoor family breed and produce Welsh Section A and B's to be shown in-hand. The showing is a family hobby and everyone helps out. Martin said; "We fit the ponies in before and after work and the shows are a great family day out - we are quite competitive too though!"
The Royal Welsh Show is the highlight of the season for Martin, he continued: "Our homebred pony, Owston Golden Sovereign took 2ndplace at the Royal Welsh last year. We were all delighted with this result. It is great to see Ben in the ring doing well with ponies we have bred and produced."
