Champions League: Additional road closure for final push to get ready for the Match

Castle Street, Cardiff, will close to traffic from 12 noon tomorrow, Friday 2 June. 

Organisers have brought forward the planned closure by 12 hours to put in place a barrier system to manage spectator and general public access in the area for the Men's final on Saturday, 3 June.

The Castle Street closure will run from the North Road/Boulevard de Nantes junction to Westgate Street where it will join up with an earlier road closure fromWestgate Street to Cowbridge Road East/Cathedral Road Junction. 

This will see the route from the Cathedral Road/Cowbridge Road East junction to North Road closed to traffic from noon tomorrow until at least 03:30hrs on Monday 5 June.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be permitted access along this route for the majority of this period excepton match day, Saturday, 3 June,when there will be some restrictions before kick off and after the final whistle. Overthis period the area from Sophia Gardens pedestrian exit by the river bridge up to Castle Street junction with Westgate Street will be open only to ticketed fans. 

Arrangements for business deliveries in this area are in place up to midnight on Friday 2 June, and some access will be restored for deliveries by 3.30am on Sunday, June 4.

The Football Association of Wales is working with the Welsh Government, Cardiff Council, and South Wales Police to support the final set up for the Champions League final. 

Advice to the travelling public is:

  • Avoid travelling by car through the City Centre on Friday 2 June.

  • If you need to drive through Cardiff City Centre please aim to do so earlier in the day.

  • Please consider making use of the additional park andwalkthat is in place over this period for the Event at Cardiff Bay South. 

  • If you are able to walk, cycle or use public transport as an alternative to driving please do so. Cyclists may be required to dismount at centre points.

Traffic Regulation Orders have been published on the Cardiff Council website. These orders allow the organisers to make closures when required. Although it is not expected that roads will be closed for the full duration of these orders, they may be used should this be required for the final set up or for safety reasons.
