The Lord Holmes of Richmond MBE to give keynote at ATEC London 2017 on 06 June 2017
The Lord Holmes of Richmond MBE will give a keynote speech at ATEC London 2017 about innovation in assistive technology and the potential of digital technology to offer solutions for disabled people.
ATEC London 2017 is a one-day event that allows disability professionals involved in the workplace and post-16 education to listen to and meet with assistive technology experts, solution providers and other likeminded delegates.
Lord Chris Holmes is Britain's most successful Paralympic swimmer - he has won nine gold medals, five silvers and one bronze.
In his speech, entitled ‘Assistive Technology: a measure of civilization', he will share his personal experience of assistive technology at the event on Tuesday, June 6, at ILEC Conference Centre and IBIS London Earls Court, London.
And he will discuss the potential of digital technology to offer solutions for disabled people and the speed of change happening in society in the current fourth industrial revolution.
Lord Chris Holmes, whose speech will also look at innovation in assistive technology, said:

"From cassette tapes to text to speech software, I could not have enjoyed the education and career I have been lucky enough to have experienced so far without it.
"I am genuinely and passionately excited about the potential of assistive technology to remove barriers, unlock opportunities and unleash talent.
"Talent is everywhere but opportunity is not and assistive technology offers a way to address that terrible imbalance.
"I urge everyone to learn more about what's out there, ask questions, find solutions and share the good news.

ATEC London 2017, which is sponsored by Barclays, gives delegates the chance to keep up-to-date with emerging assistive technology products, trends and innovations.
Employers are becoming increasingly aware of how assistive technology can promote wellbeing and inclusion in the workplace, whilst improving performance.
It can enable disabled employees to work effectively and increase productivity, as well as helping to reduce stress by empowering disabled people and removing barriers to work.
The ATEC London 2017 programme combines high-quality keynote speakers Lord Chris Holmes andMolly Watt, with seminars and product exhibitions.
There are also networking opportunities, with delegates from business, government, education, not for profit and the workplace due to attend.

N.B.Penny Mordaunt, former MP, and Minister of State for Disabled People, Health & Work, was due to give a keynote speech at ATEC London 2017.
But she is unable to attend due to her commitments resulting from the snap general election on June 8 that was called in April.

Chris is Britain's most successful Paralympic swimmer with a tally of 9 golds, 5 silvers and 1 bronze. He was also LOCOG's Director of Paralympic Integration, responsible for the organisation of the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
In 2013 Chris entered the House of Lords as Lord Holmes of Richmond, focusing his time on employment, education and skills, media and sport, and the digital opportunity. Chris is co-chair of the Parliamentary Group on assistive technology and vice-chair of the Fintech group. He has been a member of Select Committees on Digital Skills, Social Mobility and Financial Exclusion.
Chris is also Diversity Adviser to the Civil Service, non-executive director at Channel 4 and Deputy Chancellor of BPP University.
Chris sits on the Future Talent Steering Group which offers thought leadership on the future of work and how best to develop opportunities and skills for people and organisations in a changing world. Chris is also involved in various campaigns to promote accessibility and celebrate diversity, most recently chairing Channel 4's Advisor Group for the Year of Disability (YODA).
