Half-Term activities in Cardiff

Half-Term activities in Cardiff

Baby dinosaurs, a musical version of children’s favourite “Madagascar” and the chance to have your photo taken with club football’s most iconic piece of silverware are just three reasons why Cardiff is the place to be during Whitsun Half-Term.

To mark the UEFA Champions League finals in Cardiff a free festival is being held in Cardiff Bay’s Roald Dahl Plass from Thursday 1st June to Sunday 4th June. Entertainment includes live music, a Champions’ match on a floating pitch installed in the bay and the chance to be photographed alongside the UEFA Champions League Trophy.

The “Dinosaur Babies” exhibition opens at National Museum Cardiff on Saturday 27 May for 11 days. This is a chance to get up close to the dinosaurs and learn about dinosaur family life, including how they cared for their young. Some of the Jurassic highlights on display are full size dinosaur skeletons and replicas, touchable models of dinosaur embryos and eggs, and even a huge 2.5 metre model dinosaur nest!

Fans of the DreamWorks film “Madagascar” are in for a treat during the Half-Term. A musical version of the adventures of Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo is being staged at the New Theatre from Wednesday 31st May to Sunday 4th June. Performance times are available via the theatre’s website.

On Saturday 27th May from 10am until 4pm rangers at Forest Farm Conservation Centre have organised a Summer Wildlife Festival. A day of fun packed wildlife activities such as pond-dipping, bug hunting and bird watching.  The Summer Wildlife Festival at Forest Farm is completely free of charge.

A Cardiff Council spokesperson said: “There’s certainly something for children of all ages in Cardiff this Whitsun Half-Term. As a city we are also very fortunate to have so many permanent attractions such as our stunning parks, majestic castle in the city centre and a broad range of sport and leisure facilities. There’s certainly no reason to be bored during Half-Term. Partake in some of the activities available in Cardiff and enjoy the break.”
