Sunday recycling and waste collection due to UEFA Champions League final

Recycling and waste collections during the last week of the month will be staggered by one day to accommodate the Whitsun Bank Holiday Monday on the 29th of May.

However, due to expected traffic disruption from the UEFA Champions League Final being played at the Principality Stadium on Saturday 3rd June, households that normally have their waste collected on a Friday will move to Sunday 4th June. This is 2 days later, which is different to the rest of the City.

The areas that will have their recycling and waste collected on Sunday 4th June (2 days later instead of 1 day) are:

  • Heath

  • Whitchurch

  • Rhiwbina

  • Llanishen

  • Lisvane

A spokesperson for Cardiff Council said: “Most residents are able to present their general and recyclable waste out a day later as normal for Bank Holiday weeks. But because the city is proudly staging the UEFA Champions League Final on the Saturday following this year’s Whitsun Bank Holiday, the city will be extremely busy. Therefore, the sensible option for us is to collect the Friday areas on Sunday 4th June. It is hoped that these arrangements won’t cause too much inconvenience. Our Waste Education and Enforcement Teams will be working in the areas affected to advise residents of this change, however to avoid any confusion in the future we would recommend customers sign up to our email reminder service. This service is free to sign up to, and means you will always be sent your recycling and waste collection date the night before collection.”
