St Oswalds' Kids help On Medical out of a ‘Pickle'

A local medical agency who were first to give a Snowdog a home has sought help from children at St Oswald's Hospice to give their pooch a name.

On Medical's commercial director, Ian Scanlan, held the winning bid of £2,500 at the St Oswald's Great North Snowdogs Charity quiz last November, held at The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle. The little Snowdog, which was a blank dog not featured in the trail, has been painted on Medical green with bandages, by local mural artist Trinity Ruhl -Young.

As the money raised was to help young people supported by St Oswalds, the team at On Medical thought it would be a great idea to let the children decide a name of their dog. After numerous suggestions, Pickle was the winning name, chosen by three year old Lillie-Mae Chipping from Durham.

Scanlan said: "The auction was for such a great cause and we thought asking the children at St Oswalds to help with a name would be a great way to further involve them in the Campaign and a special memory to have one of the children name an iconic Snowdog."

Lillie-Mae's picture, along with a framed plaque, has took pride of place alongside Pickle in the company's reception, situated on Heaton Road.

Adam Giles, care support worker at St Oswald's Hospice, said: "Both the children and staff had a lot of fun choosing a name for the Snowdog, and we think Pickle is a very fitting name for the dog! Lillie Mae was thrilled with her presents so we'd like to thank On Medical for coming in toady and for supporting the Hospice."

Scanlan added: "We received some great name suggestions from both the children and staff, but our favourite had to be Pickle. It's very fitting with the company colours. We'd like to give special thanks to the children who helped us and hope they enjoyed taking part."

Lillie-Mae won a soft toy Snowdog and book from On Medical for naming Pickle. The company also donated other Snowdog toys and DVD's for the children at the hospice to play with.

On Medical has chosen St Oswald's at its chosen charity, and it will continue to help raise as much money as possible in the coming year.
