In celebration of her 50th birthday and her 20th year in St Ives, painter Emma Jeffryes will be exhibiting a specially created collection of works at New Craftsman Gallery from 1 April to 6 May. Established for the last decade as one of St Ives' most distinctive and well-loved artists, Emma's typically naïve style is this time enhanced by a more experimental, multi-faceted approach to her practice.

‘Having fallen in love with St Ives twenty years ago, I am still every bit as passionate about this area as I always was, and I continue to try and convey that feeling in my painting. These works seek to express the feeling of excitement I had when I first set eyes on St Ives, but with a fresh approach' says Emma. ‘Colour remains of great importance in my work, but I have given much more thought to simplicity of line, shape and space whilst attempting to introduce looser, more fluid mark making, layers and texture. My fascination with boats takes centre stage in this collection. Some of these works are based on the resplendent fishing trawlers of Newlyn Harbour, and St Ives' elegant 'Boats in The Bay' event of September last year, an occasion when old sailing vessels gathered to sail around the bay with wonderful, moustached old gents at the helm. Similarly, I continue to be inspired by Falmouth's truly spectacular 2014 Tall Ships Regatta'.

This exhibition is accompanied by a new collection of contemporary vessels by leading British ceramicist Sarah Purvey, and uniquely beautiful jewellery by rising designer-maker Nina Bukvic.

Emma Jeffryes, Sarah Purvey and Nina Bukvic will be on show from 1April to 6 May at New Craftsman Gallery, 24 Fore St, St Ives, Cornwall | 01736 795652 | info@newcraftsmanstives.com |www.newcraftsmanstives.com
