Galentine's Day is on Monday 13thFebruary and there's nothing like a day of celebration to unite us all! Some of our lovely author clients have offered their expertise and insights to provide us with a series of editorial opinion pieces, feature ideas, recipes, photos, even an event, to showcase the splendour of Galentine's Day!

If you're writing about Galentine's Day, you're very welcome to take extracts or examples from our online press folder. All we ask in return is that you let us know, as we'd love to see what you think of our ideas and want to share the stories with our clients, our social media network, and to their networks - so to thousands and thousands of people!

But first, what is Galentine's Day???

Galentine's Day is a holiday created by Amy Poehler's Parks and Recreation (US sitcom) character Leslie Knope that is starting to be popular in the UK and US with women who want to celebrate their 'gal friends'. It occurs every year on February 13th, the day before Valentine's Day (swap the V for the G and what do you get?). As Leslie herself explains on the show:

"Oh it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies."

  • According to Bing.com in the US, when people search for 'Valentine's Day Gifts For...' 22% fill in 'husband', 20% type 'friend' and 17% 'boyfriend' (where's the ‘girlfriend' search?).

  • Research atBustle.com provided stats to show that making time for your best girl mates will help to improve your romantic relationship:

    • 74% felt that spending time with their girlfriends improved their sex life!

    • 91% who said they spent enough time with their friends said they were also happy in their relationship vs. 85% who felt friend time was lacking.

    • 70% said spending time with mates made them more confident and more fulfilled in life

  • While in the UK, a survey by Deliveroo found that 54% of Brits admit they would be happy to ‘third wheel' a couple on Valentine's Day, as one in 4 choose to spend February 14th with friends over their partner...so maybe it's not just the day before Valentine's Day that we choose to dedicate to our friends?

In the Galentine's Day online press folder we have:

  • SHARING RECIPES: Mouth-watering ‘meze style' recipes for a BFF get-together after work that can be cooked quickly and easily, then shared, while enjoying a glass/bottle/magnum of Prosecco courtesy of ITV's This Morning Chef Theo Michaels (author of Microwave Mug Meals, £10, Lorenz Books, 2016).

  • PSYCHOLOGIST EXPERT COMMENT: Celebrating G-Day more than V-Day! Expert comment from New York City-based psychoanalyst Dr Jane Goldberg and her 20-something daughter Molly Goldberg about the importance of celebrating friendships and not taking each other for granted, why it's unlikely your husband/boyfriend is your best friend no matter what you tell yourself, as well as some signs to spot when a friendship has turned negative/sour. Jane is the author of many books, owner of La Casa Spa in NYC and a holistic therapy expert, her latest book is My Mother, My Daughter, My Self (Free Association Books, £12.99, 2016).

  • OP-ED: An op-ed article written by author Natalie Savvides: 'What is Galantine's Day and why I think it's just as important as Valentine's Day'. Natalie is the author of Full Circle, which includes unedited extracts from her diaries from the age of 13 (Pegasus, £8.99, 2016). Natalie is about to embark on a series of school visits to talk through commonly undiscussed topics with teenage girls and open dialogue about taboo subjects in honour of National Happiness Day (March 20th).
