GLAMPING POSITIONING ITSELF AS THE ESSENTIAL ESCAPE FROM THE BOARDROOM

PRESS RELEASE

GLAMPING POSITIONING ITSELF AS THE ESSENTIAL ESCAPE FROM THE BOARDROOM

Glamping is fast becoming more than just a weekend trend. Businesses are also buying into this escapism trend to give essential reflective or team building time away from the office in order for staff to experience the great outdoors.

Home Farm Glamping in Hertfordshire is taking a new breed of bookings in the form of businesses and corporations who want to use the site for team building, or who are offering their staff stay incentives as part of their HR schemes that encourage staff to take positive time out.

Jess Gibbs has been offering out Home Farm to businesses to run their team building events and corporate away days since its start up in early 2015. With three yurts and nine bell tents on site, bbqs andcampfires next to each tent, fine dining options, open air yoga classes and acres of land and forest to explore, Home Farm has become an essential escape from the city boardroom.

Businesses who have used Home Farm include Linklaters LLP, Willis Insurance, Adam and Eve DDB and Beyond Media. Each business used the site to build an experience for their staff that met their specific objectives in terms of bringing employees together, team building and building relationships. Jess says: ‘The activities each group chose were very different but all of them commented on what a great experience it was and how different from any other team away day they had taken part in.'

Jess was a lawyer in London for eight years and, after seeking alternative job satisfaction away from the pressures of her corporate life, she now works between her glamping business and lawyer roles. She understands how having some time away from the office can be hugely therapeutic.

‘People come here wearing their suits, clutching their blackberries and mobile phones. By the end of their stay, they talking to one another around campfires, bonding over adventure trails, and they've got muddy wellies on their feet. People are very inspired by the glamping experience and Home Farm is a real escape from the city. We're here to enable people to disconnect in order to reconnect.'

Human Resource teams have also been using the lure of glamping to incentivise staff. Due to its proximity to London, staff are being encouraged to take time out during the working week. There are plenty of team building exercises that can be set up in order to achieve your company's desired outcomes, or if what is needed is a bit of quiet time away from the office getting to know your colleagues in an informal and relaxed setting then this is a great place to do it.

Jess explains: ‘City workers in London are coming to stayformid-week in order to refresh themselves. Home Farm is so easily accessible - you just jumpoff the tube at Stanmore (Jubilee Line) or Edgware (Northern Line) and in five minutes you'll discover rolling green fields and avenues of beautiful, ancient trees. Or if the overland is easier, Elstree & Borehamwood station (Thameslink) is just a couple of miles away and can be walked to.

‘This is the place to come if you want to escape London but can't face the thought of a long drive or crowded, expensive train. No need for a car, you can grab your overnight bag, hop on the tube or overland straight from work and be with us in 40 minutes. You can even order a delicious supper and the team will deliver it to your campfire to be heated up once you have settled in.'

Jess can also arrange catering for corporate events or big groups. ‘We organise a picnic delivered in a gorgeous hamper for lunch, or a delicious hog roast, or we can even set up a three-course banquet by the tent with a chef to cater to your every need.'

If climbing trees, country walks, toasting marshmallows and star gazing to your heart's content are preferable to the boardroom and a noisy city, then glamping is the perfect business break away from the boardroom.

Lorna Denton, a mindset coach, explains the benefits of taking staff out of the boardroom and into nature: ‘Off site training does several things for the employee. It reduces temptation to check up on work/emails during breaks or to stay on after to complete work. This means they will be more engaged in the day, less distracted and more likely to take it all on board. Being off site, and having an overnight stay, makes it more memorable, rather than just another day at work, so again participants are more likely to engage and retain knowledge. We learn more when we are relaxed and having fun.

‘Team bonding and outdoor type activities are really beneficial as it gives staff a chance to unwind, de-stress, enjoy themselves and share experiences together. Seeing each other in a completely different situation can take a working relationship to a different level.'
