Sidhil's quad therapy surfaces selected by Bedford Hospital NHS Trust
SIDHIL'S QUAD THERAPY SURFACES SELECTED BY BEDFORD HOSPITAL NHS TRUST

Preventing pressure ulcers is one of the major safety and cost challenges facing healthcare today, with the condition identified as one of the four common patient harms by the Health Service Thermometer. The tissue viability team at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust has selected Sidhil's flagship Artemis dynamic therapy mattress as part of an ongoing pressure ulcer reduction strategy, helping the hospital to maintain the current low prevalence rate achieved by the team.

Developed in line with current nursing procedures, delivering the full range of care up to very high risk as defined by the EPUAP and NICE guidelines, Artemis is a fully automatic dynamic mattress with a range of high end functions to support acute care needs, and was selected by the Bedford team following in depth product evaluation and in-service trials.

The levels of flexibility offered by Artemis proved an important consideration for the hospital. Artemis is a quad therapy system, combining alternating therapy for effective pressure relief with constant low pressure to reduce peak pressures, a pulsation mode to support peripheral blood flow and a max inflate mode, meaning the surface is suitable for use across the patient population. An internal egress alarm added to the functionality for patient safety.

In addition, Artemis is truly dynamic, incorporating automatic and intuitive pressure adjustment, with internal pressures determined by the individual patient's weight. Constant monitoring enables pressures to change automatically to accommodate the changing movement and positioning of the patient. The surfaces are expected to deliver defined clinical benefits, providing enhanced safety and comfort for all patient group risk levels.

Bedford Hospital NHS Trust has taken delivery of 155 Artemis dynamic therapy mattresses, which will be used on Sidhil Innov8 iQ ward beds acquired by the Trust in 2013, replacing existing bed stock with modern, electrically operated equipment designed around optimising tissue viability, infection control and manual handling.
