Midlands creative mailing specialist awarded Government backed cyber security certification

A Midlands based direct mailing and creative hand fulfilment specialist has been certified by Cyber Essentials - a government-backed, industry supported scheme to help businesses and organisations protect themselves and their clients against increasingly common cyber attacks.

Jigsaw CCS works across a wide range of sectors from household name retailers to higher education, and printing and creative agencies. The Cyber Essentials is a way for SMEs to take a cyber health check and implement strategies necessary to protect their customers and clients giving reassurance their details are safe with them.

The Government believes that implementing these measures can significantly reduce an organisation's vulnerability.

Jigsaw CCS Operations Director Lorna Harling said: "Our work with clients is based on trust. We treat their businesses, and the data we process, as highly confidential. And we wanted to carry out a health check to ensure our own systems supported that, which is why we decided to apply to the scheme.

"The people who carry out cyber attacks - whether criminal or mischievous - have no respect for the impact that an attack can have on a business. We wanted to make doubly sure we were doing everything possible to protect our clients and ourselves."

Jigsaw CCS worked with Risk Evolves - a risk management and security company - to prepare the business for the certification process.

Helen Barge from Risk Evolves said: "Even the smallest business works with confidential information. That might be about clients, suppliers, products and processes. Many of us take work home, we log in on public WiFi systems, and we have access to company files on our laptops.

"As a business responsible for other people's data, Jigsaw CCS worked with us to ensure they were doing their very best for their clients and customers in terms of cyber security. An attack can happen to anyone and it was great to work with a company which wanted to go the extra mile to assure their cyber security was as robust as it could possibly be."

Jigsaw CCS was also helped to implement its processes for the certification by another Midlands based IT Solutions business, Zenzero.

Lorna said: "We are firm believers in collaboration and partnership working. Risk Evolves proved to be excellent in that regard. They understood what we wanted to achieve and helped us through the process all the way. Our IT providers Zenzero also recognise the vital importance of having secure IT throughout our business and worked closely with us and Risk Evolves to make sure the process ran smoothly."

Kevin Goss, Account Manager at Zenzero said: "The security of all our customers' IT systems is of paramount importance to Zenzero. We have worked with Jigsaw CCS since 2012, and were delighted to help them achieve the Cyber Essentials certification; which was easy as most of the pieces of the puzzle were already in place."

The Government launched its 10 Steps to Cyber Security for small businesses to encourage organisations to consider whether they were managing their cyber risks.

The Assurance Framework, leading to the awarding of Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus certificates for organisations was designed in consultation with SMEs to be light-touch and achievable at low cost.

The Information Commissioners Office (ICO) has the power to fine companies and organisations which fail to protect their clients' data.

Last month TalkTalk was fined a record £400,000 for poor website security which led to the theft of the personal data of nearly 157,000 customers.

Meanwhile, recently Tesco Bank was hit by a cyber attack which resulted in the company having to refund £2.5m to customers who reported having money taken from their accounts.
