BARNSTAPLE TO HOST FIRST LANTERN PARADE IN TOWN CENTRE


Barnstaple Town Centre Management, in conjunction with North Devon Theatres, are excited to announce that a Lantern Parade that will take place on Thursday 15th December coinciding with the town centre’s late night shopping.

The Lantern Parade will begin at 6pm from Green Lanes and thanks to sponsorship from the Tesco Barnstaple stored, prizes will be awarded to the best lanterns on the night: 2 x £50 Tesco gift cards, 2 x food hampers as well as a turkey and chocolate hamper ready for Christmas.

In collaboration with Green Lanes, there will be a series of three workshops in the lead up to the parade, providing the opportunity to come along and make your own lanterns or help to make the larger lanterns for the parade. Workshops will be taking place in Unit K9 (Opposite Topshop) on 24th November, 1st and 8th December between 4 - 7pm for £3.

Cancer Research Relay for Life Teams will be joining the parade with their Candles of Hope; paying tribute to those whose lives have been affected by cancer by decorating candle bags with poignant messages of remembrance and celebration.

After the parade, over 1,000 candles will be displayed at The Square for a short celebration ceremony.

Kevin Moyle, Manager at Tesco Extra on Barnstaple Retail Park said: Our community is important to us, as such we are very pleased to be supporting the Barnstaple Lantern Parade, especially as it is for Cancer Research UK. I’m sure it will be a great event for all involved.”

Dan Fowler, Store Manager at Tesco Rose Lane said: We are very pleased to be supporting Barnstaple’s very first lantern parade and we can’t wait to see all the differently decorated lanterns. I’m sure the lucky winners will definitely enjoy the prizes we have donated.”

Hannah Harrington from Barnstaple Town Centre Management has said “We’re excited to be hosting Barnstaple’s first Lantern Parade, it’s the perfect way to get in the festive spirit whilst celebrating the fantastic work of Cancer Research UK; a charity close to so many of our hearts.

“The workshops will be a great way for adults and children alike to prepare for the parade, helping one another create Christmas inspired lanterns as well as help with the showstopping ones that will guide the way.

“We look forward to seeing you all then to light the town with beautiful lanterns only weeks away from Christmas Day!”.
