Products from the tremcoillbruck range ensure leak-free facades

Cambridge Street, Manchester

Designed by Stirling Prize winning architectural practice, Hodder+Partners, Cambridge Street is a development of 282 residential apartments within two towers, of 29 and 22 storeys, in a prime location in the centre of Manchester. The elevations of the buildings are complex and Astley Facades turned to tremco illbruck to provide waterproofing solutions for window and other junctions.

Careful detailing around the windows was crucial; the tremcoillbruck specialists worked with both Astley Facades and main contractor, Renaker Build, to supply a range of compatible products in order to create a seal between the high-performance Velfac windows and the sheathing board.

illbruck ME501 Duo Window Membrane HD was bonded to each window with illbruck SP350 Fix & Seal High Tack adhesive prior to the window being installed. The ME501 was then bonded to the sheathing board with SP525 Frame and Façade Sealant & Adhesive. Where there were difficult details - mainly at the corners around the windows, an added application of ilbruck SP925 Air Seal was used. In addition to the membranes, ME315 Total Protection Tape was supplied to seal joint the sheathing board and provided total compatibility with the illbruck window membrane and adhesive.

The team carried out a number of site visits to ascertain the best way of installing the membranes and applying the adhesives. In addition, a number of toolbox talks were provided to all applicators. The biggest challenge was the generally very wet and cold weather conditions.
