Lotte Moore has been writing all her life, following in the footsteps of her father, World War Two poet John Pudney (‘For Johnny'), and her grandfather, the prolific writer Sir Alan Herbert. This esteemed literary legacy has led to Lotte's own success. Growing up in World War Two surrounded by the likes of Churchill and Chaplin has provided Lotte with splendid stories to tell. Her latest book, Lotte's War, is published by Urbane Publications on Remembrance Day 2016. This is Lotte Moore's legacy - as one of the last of her generation to vividly remember life in the War through the eyes of a child. Designed with primary school curriculums in mind, Lotte's War is the perfect gift for children and a fabulous teaching aid.

[image]Over the past decade, Lotte has written more than 20 books including children's picture books, novellas, poetry collections, short stories and an autobiography. She's been busy. Her passion is to meet people, particularly children, and share her stories with them. For many years, Lotte has visited schools and talked about the realities of life as a young child in the War, first in London and then having been evacuated to the Home Counties. Children in schools today are shocked by the concept of rationing, the harsh truth about being separated from your parents and your home, and the frightening thought of bombs, air raid shelters and sirens - which became part of daily life for so many children during World War Two. Lotte, as a child, socialised with the Prime Minister Winston Churchill, her brother almost drowning him in the pool at Chartwell (by accident, of course!), and Lotte has many more stories to tell. Lotte's War is written for children first, teachers and parents second. Full of facts, stories, photos, anecdotes, poetry and much more...

Synopsis

Lotte's War tells the story of a five-year-old girl's experiences living in Britain during the World War Two: a time of hardship, heroism and hope. As a child, Lotte may not have been fully aware of the dangers and struggles around her, but her memories of rationing, evacuation, barrage balloons, bombing, blackouts and bunkers give an incredible insight into life during wartime Britain. Lotte's War shows what children did to survive, how they endured rationing, how they coped as evacuees, and what they felt about the war. Lotte talks about the bravery shown by people and the amazing friendships that she made. In this original, innovative new book, Lotte shares her memories of an incredible life with today's young generation, so they can experience a unique view of Britain through the eyes of a child. Lotte's War will enhance your knowledge on World War Two and allow you to see the war from a new point of view.

The Author

Lotte Moore's stories includeThe Invisible Elephant,The Dinosaur Who Ate A PianoandThe Teaspoon Family), which are enjoyed by primary school boys and girls around the country. As a child, Lotte lived in Kent with her parents who enjoyed entertaining, political debate and literary discussion with the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill, H E Bates, W H Auden and Benjamin Britten. She was often lonely and turned to writing (stories, diary, poems and letters) to express her feelings of isolation. In her early teens her commitment turned to ballet, point shoes replaced the pen. She was selected by the Royal Ballet School to dance in the Opera Ballet. When rejected for growing ‘too tall' Lotte turned to acting and intermittently to writing. She finally married aged 38 to her loyal husband Chris (who continues to support Lotte by typing our her hand-written stories). Lotte became immersed in her stepchildren and then her own two girls. When her daughters left home she describes "empty years" filled by illness and family problems, and she turned to writing once again.
