A free pilates class was one of the highlights of a week of activities organised by Stafford's largest landlord as part of a wider initiative to promote health and wellbeing amongst its older customers.

Timed to coincide with national Older People's Day, Five Ways to Wellbeing was staged by Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) and also featured a customer conference, an event hosted by U3A on getting connected and a ‘Bring and Buy' sale which raised around £170 for the housing association's adopted charity for 2016, A Child of Mine.

Whilst the conference was staged at the SARH offices in Parker Court, Stafford, the other events took place at Independent Living Schemes across the area. The schemes provide homes to a diverse range of people, usually aged 55 and above, who enjoy being part of a secure community whilst having the independence and privacy of having their own front door.

There are 19 Independent Living schemes across the area managed by SARH, including Doxey House in Stafford where residents enjoyed the pilates workout led by local instructor Samantha Logan.

Alison Poole, Independent Living Coordinator at SARH, commented: "We were delighted at the support we received for these events that engaged mind, body and soul as a means to enjoying a happier and healthier lifestyle."
